Stained Glass Hummingbird Suncatcher – Amber w/ copper patina

Description

Hummingbirds are among the tiniest of birds, and one of the most interesting. They fly 25-30 mph, their average life span is five years, their hearts beat up to 1,260 times per minute, and hummingbird babies are about the size of a penny! Amazing creatures!

It is constructed using the copper foil (Tiffany) method with iridized glasses, mimicking the amazing colors seen in nature. Each of the 17 pieces of glass is individually cut, ground to size, and the edges are dressed. The edges of each piece are wrapped in copper foil, which is then burnished. The pieces are soldered together, and rings are attached for the hanger. After inspection and cleaning a copper patina is applied, and then polished. As the final step each hummingbird is thoroughly cleaned and waxed.

This hummingbird is larger than life and measures approximately 7″ tall and 9″ wide.
